Steam IM protocol

I'm curious about the protocol Steam IM uses. This page has many of its suggestions labelled "Feature exists in MSN Messenger," which seems to imply that it's MSN. Can anyone confirm? If so, do you know if it uses the standard wire protocol, or if it's been modified? -Ryanb
