It's decided. Mainly due to messy brushwork and non-functional scripted sequences, I'm now remaking the whole freaking map and splitting it off into different maps with transitions. I stink. |

- Hi everyone, im Darthkillyou (MUHUHEHEHEHEHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAI!!!!!</evillaughter>) and I currently live in New York, USA.
I started using SDK (or more specifically, hammer) some time ago. (About a year now.) In fact, I had no clue that hammer existed until I randomly stumbled upon it while getting bored of the model viewer.
"What the Heck is that???"
Before hammer, I created interesting environments within Half-Life 2 single-player maps using console commands, like "npc_create npc_vortigaunt" and stuff like that. In fact, I memorized a pretty large chunk of the cheat codes list on gamefaqs and had about half my keyboard binded to a console command of some sort (I still do!)
Then, I realized that getting vortigaunts, zombies, combines, and citizens to fight endlessly over and over again got really, really boring. (I got tired of constantly hearing the vorts say "TO THE VOID WITH YOU!!!")
Of course, I couldn't just sit there and be bored. I eventually stumbled upon the Source SDK and wondered "What the Heck is that???" I installed it, used the model viewer for about an hour, and quickly got bored of that as well. Seeing nothing else to do, I clicked on the Hammer icon, again wondering "What the Heck is that???"
Yeah, so basically I struggled my way through the beginner tutorials ("omgomgwtfisaskybox howdouputthemintehmaps") and then I kinda picked things up from there. Yay for me.
I am currently working on my first large map (sp for HL2, and not modded, im afraid. Mabye later I will think about HL2:DM or mabye even CS:S mapping). It seems to have quite a few bugs in it right now...
Ah, yes... Portal. I work on my own test chamber whenever I get bored of my HL2 map (which is almost a year in progress now... geez, I'm slow...)

NOTE: Don't ask about the name Darthkillyou. Its origin goes very far back.
ANOTHER NOTE: No, I am not as violent as my name suggests.
RANDOM COMMENT: As you can probably see by now, I like to fill up my user page with random, useless stuff.
Retarded idea
I just thought up a crazy idea. The idea is for me to create a map that completely breaks every (major) map dev rule in the book. For example, deliberately caused leaks, use no func_details, carve multiple cylinders (at varying depths) into large walls, etc. etc. Basically, a map that completely sucks. Just contributing to the many useless and crazy ideas in the world.
MyMap
Here's my first map ever. Feel free to give some suggestions.
Some outdoor screenshots of my current map:
An indoor shot of the middle platform:
A Combineified room:
Bland, isn't it? I plan on totally remaking this part anyway (graphically, of course.)
Meanwhile, in a completely different part of the map,
This is another part of the map where the player ends up after he/she fights through the outdoor part. (At least, that's what I'm planning.) And yes, I do sometimes break the rules and skip straight to texturing (Ack!).
A nice, warm-feeling maintenance hallway:
A random hallway crammed with random junk:
ACCESS. DENIED.
Underground Tunnels:
It's decided. Mainly due to messy brushwork and non-functional scripted sequences, I'm now remaking the whole freaking map and splitting it off into different maps with transitions. I stink.
