OK. Now I'm starting to hit writer's block, and wouldn't mind help. The basic structure I'm aiming for should be pretty obvious, so if someone wants to add, please stick to it? My goal here is to have a better hub document for the optimization related articles. --[[User:Spektre1|Spektre1]] 20:26, 20 Oct 2005 (PDT)

If you're attempting to combine the most useful aspects of the articles already existing, I'd expect exhaustion.  Also, I find it difficult to see what could be added to this article that doesn't already exist in other articles; as it seems the creation of this article had something to do with avoiding the redundancy of the others, it has me rather concerned.  Suffice to say, adding to this article is difficult without knowing much more. --[[User:Demented|Demented]] 21:20, 20 Oct 2005 (PDT)

Do me a favor, and let me finish the article before editing it, please? hehe --Spektre1 16:36, 19 Oct 2005 (PDT)

I don't mean to undermine your efforts, but is this going to be sufficiently different from Controlling Geometry Visibility and Compile Times, Optimizing and Checking Your Map, Optimization, and Optimization (Geometry) to justify a new article? You might be better off improving existing articles rather than creating a new one. —Maven (talk) 17:28, 19 Oct 2005 (PDT)

Here, I just made a {{wip}} template. Slap that on the page when you get a chance, and it will warn others that you're still working on the article. —Maven (talk) 17:32, 19 Oct 2005 (PDT)

Thanks. And I intend to make this significantly different, yes. I'm not reinventing the stone, rather, I'm trying to present this in a more coherent light. The problem is all those articles either do theory or practice, but don't really combine them in one go. So Hopefully this will help. I'm going to link to all the other pages from here, and I'm hoping this will serve as a proper hub to all the other articles on the subject. --Spektre1 17:39, 19 Oct 2005 (PDT)

IT WAS MINOR!! LOL—ts2do (talk) 18:04, 19 Oct 2005 (PDT)
Yeah, but it makes for edit conflicts... which make the task much more difficult for the person doing longer edits. —Maven (talk) 18:10, 19 Oct 2005 (PDT)

lol @ todo. OK. So you know, I'm planning on sorting out all the optimization articles in here. I feel I have a strong enough grasp on how the Source engine handles things that I'm qualified for the job. I'd also like to consider myself eloquent enough, that I can explain the complicated concepts. Please tell me if you folks have any comments, I'd much appreciate them. If you have ideas for how to sort out the optimization articles, let me know. As it stands, they're fairly redundant. I'm not certain how to go about organizing them, but I think there should be at least a second article that goes into more in depth into theory of optimization, and one that goes into practical application. --Spektre1 18:10, 19 Oct 2005 (PDT)

I don't know whether this helps, but if you're planning on doing drastic changes to one or more pages you might want to make a sandbox for it (User:Spektre1/sandbox, for example), then commit the changes to the real page(s) when done. I'm looking forward to seeing your article, first, though. —Maven (talk) 18:14, 19 Oct 2005 (PDT)

Blah - Need to step away from this for a few.
