if cylinders are made too small, it seems they turn themselves into weird concave shapes
however, in many maps (official and not), there seem to be small cylinder brushes that are small.

the bug generally occurs at below 64x64.

:That's a limitation in Hammer's method of calculating the position of each vertex, using a lower number of faces can fix this problem, as will using a model. [[User:Solokiller|Solokiller]] 20:41, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

:::I doubt that, The tool forces vertices on the grid, even though you can move and scale objects in a grid smaller than 1 unit. The best thing to do is to reduce the face count until it's a convex brush. [[User:Solokiller|Solokiller]] 21:36, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

I think it could be extremely helpful for the inclusion of examples of how to achieve the look of concave without using concave brushes.  This can be done in several ways with triangles and creating brushes through other brushes.  Sure its truely not a concave brush but it would give the illusion of one.
