Talk:SketchUp to SMD Export plugin

From Valve Developer Community

An end-to-end how to is needed. I have sketchup, l4d, and verve. But my efforts to move 3d warehouse media into l4d has been utter frustration. The only thing I have not done is the 3ds max route. I have tried the blender route. My dream:

  • Hammer -> import -> sketchup
    • brushes / static model / physics model

So, where is the how-to? Sure, the sketchup plugin exports an SMD file, but what about the textures? How do I set up the qc file? Is there a cookie cutter 3d warehouse to l4d path? Please describe. Thank you. Zettix 02:08, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

The page now links to Compiling a model. --TomEdwards 11:49, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Texturing?

Isn't there any way to "unwrap" the model, so I could create a proper texture? I'm a total noob in this modeling business, so I thought I'd start with SketchUp. --Vihannes 14:44, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

A few things

It would be good to see a few picture examples of models created in Sketchup. (To show people what's possible and encourage them to use the program a little more) Are there any good guides that you can provide which looks at making a static model from start to finish? - sev
