hidehud

hidehud is a console variable available in all Source Source games. It hides certain parts of the player's HUD, at if it could be done by changing m_iHideHUD field value. Following values available:

  • 0 - Nothing.
  • 1 - Hide weapon selection buckets. Also hides weapon's ammo bar.
    Icon-Bug.pngBug:Doesn't work in Black Mesa Black Mesa.
  • 2 - Flashlight.
    Confirm:Doesn't work.
  • 4 - Hide all elements.
Icon-Bug.pngBug:Text from game_text will appear for a while.  (tested in: Black Mesa,Half-Life 2: Deathmatch)
Icon-Bug.pngBug:Doesn't affect score points and placement in Black Mesa.
  • 8 - Hide bars for health, armor, ammo, AUX power (Half-Life 2 series Half-Life 2 series), miscellaneous status elements (trains, pickup history, death notices, etc), long-jump module icon and mana (Black Mesa), also armor if Black Mesa.
  • 16 - The same as 8, but also hides crosshair (center).
  • 32 - Hide weapon selection buckets, health, armor, ammo, AUX power (Half-Life 2 series).
  • 64 - Hide miscellaneous status elements (trains, pickup history, death notices, etc). In Black Mesa, affects only death notices and damage icons.
  • 128 - Hide all communication elements (chat, voice icon, etc).
  • 256 - Hide crosshair with its additional elements (such as brackets or portal shoots).
  • 512 - Hide vehicle crosshair (buggy's tau crosshair for instant).
  • 1024 - Value used for vehicles, hides weapon selection buckets. In Black Mesa, hides long-jump module icon and mana instead.
  • 2048 - Hide challenge elements, such as time, steps, placed portals in Portal Portal.
Tip.pngTip: All the values can be combined, as it's flag value based. For example, to hide challenge elements and weapon selection in Portal, use 2049 value.
Note.pngNote: While weapon selection bucket are hidden, the player won't be able to select a weapon for use in this way.
Icon-Bug.pngBug:While in game chat is hidden, attempt to use multiplayer in game chat will prevent the client from opening game menu, until app restart or value changed. In Black Mesa, this also rotates client's view angle for unknown reason.  (tested in: Half-Life 2: Deathmatch,Black Mesa)
Icon-Bug.pngBug:Most of these will cause timer appear in Portal, unless challenge elements hidden.
