License

I was confused about the Licensing Valve Technology article, wondering if it referred to SourceTM or not. Trying to edit the talk page informed me that I should login to edit. On the main page it says "Sign up as a developer to contribute or to ask a question." So I tried to sign up to ask about using SourceTM and the relation between the License. However, in an attempt to sign up, I am forced to check that "I am a licensed user of the Source engine and/or Source SDK." before I am allowed to make an account. If anyone could clarify weather the Licensing Valve Technology article was relating to the licensed user of Source engine/Source SDK. If not, how do I become a "licensed user of the source engine and/or Source SDK"? Chances are this account will have to be banned/deleted for not having the license, but I really wanted to know how to get one, am I just missing something obvious? Eronth 18:28, 28 Nov 2007 (PST)

The Licensing_Valve_Technology is indeed referring to the SourceTM Engine created by Valve (read the first few paragraphs of the article). Be aware, however, that licensing the Source engine is very different from creating a MOD. When you create a MOD, you build content (maps, models, textures, game code,...) on top of the Source engine, whereas if you want to modify the Source engine itself, you would have to license it (which means you have to pay to buy a license, from Valve, that allows you to modify). Regarding the "I am a licensed user of the Source engine and/or Source SDK." check box required at registration here on the wiki: that only serves to verify that you indeed possess (i.e. that you have bought) any Source game (HL2, HL2 Ep1, HL2 Ep2, CS:S, etc...) or the Source SDK, which you probably have. --Etset 04:19, 26 Jan 2008 (PST)
Thanks. It was a little confusing and sounded a bit like I had to pay to be a licensed user in addition to buying a game. That clears things up for me. Eronth 11:34, 26 Jan 2008 (PST)

Help- Combine Bullets

When I load Alyx into portal, she can fire her gun with sound and is capable of dealing damage. The combine, however, seem to lack sound and damage, but do present visual affirmation of firing their guns. Does anyone know anything about this that may help me learn how to fix it?
