텍스쳐는 2차원 공간 좌표를 이용한 평면 [[Wikipedia:Raster graphics|라스터]] 이미지 파일로서 소스 게임 엔진에서는 {{en}} [[Valve Texture Format]]을 이용하여 저장 되고 사용되어지고 있습니다. 
매우 드문 형태의 예외가 [[material:ko|재질]]을 통해서 일어나기도 합니다. 

A [[texture]] is a two-dimensional [[Wikipedia:Raster graphics|raster]] image in the context of a game engine. Textures in Source are stored in the [[Valve Texture Format]], and with a very few exceptions are only accessed through an intermediate [[material]].

가장 흔하게 쓰이는 텍스쳐 형태는 [[albedo]] [http://dic.daum.net/word/view.do?wordid=kkw000169980&q=albedo 알베도] 텍스쳐입니다. 현재 쓰이고 있는 수많은 현대적 게임 엔지들에서는 여러 방식의 라스터 이미지가 쓰이고 있습니다. 예를 들자면 {{en}} [[bump map|범프맵]] - [[specular mask|스펙큘러 마스크]], [[specular|스펙큘러맵]] 같은 것들이 있습니다.
