I'd appreciate if the source code part of the new SDK could be made available for the Linux Steam client, too. I'm currently funneling my efforts into making the HL2 code compile happily with GCC 4 without <code>-fpermissive</code> and with <code>-Wall -Werror</code>, and I find it a bit painful having to reboot to Windows, let Steam update, run the wizard to extract the code, reboot and transfer the stuff onto my Linux partition. I don't mind this being &quot;restricted content&quot; to e.g. only HL2 buyers; I have a registered copy of HL2 and the readiness to supply my username and password to the <code>steam</code> binary.

Multibyte character(especially Japanese & Chinese) contents corruption by the Wiki update
+
Here :)
After the wiki update, all previous contents in Japanese got corrupted, near impossible to read parts from parts. This includes Greg's test contents.

It seems to me it's a charcode issue. It could be database content itself(MySQL setting?), or input/output charcode conversions(php setting and MediaWiki script). Please fix it or we won't be able to continue our translation project - n-neko 00:34, 19 Nov 2005 (PST)
+
Also, I've seen that exists a translation in another language that I don't know (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page:ka)

Also I'm not 100% sure(I can read Chinese characters because they are also used in Japanese, but can't read/speak the language Chinese), but Chinese document also looks something wrong compared with google cache original version. Some characters have been changed, making less sense. - n-neko 01:24, 19 Nov 2005 (PST)

Hello, I see that this is a multilingual wiki.
 +
Have you considered using the Translate extension, which allows to easily make your MediaWiki multilingual? It makes you save enormous amounts of time which otherwise is wasted on templates wizardry, manual synchronisation of pages and so on, scarying off most translators; and offers many other aid to efficient translation.
 +
Now it's also available in handy tarball bundles.
 +
The page explains how to get help and more information, and there is extensive documentation; asking on #mediawiki-i18n @ freenode is probably your best chance for immediate assistance if needed.

This is my first contribution, it's not big, but I think that it could be helpful to someone :)

+
Into this file, you can populate (with your personal edit: notepad ++ or another)

:: Here's what the Wiki's currently sending. Different bytes are marked in bold.
+
1) Path where your steamcmd is installed (only for one time)
 +
2) Path where you want to instal or update your games.

:: <code>(3c) (75) (6c) (3e) (3c) (6c) (69) (3e) (20) (e9,80,9a) (e6,b0,97) (e5,3f,a3) (e3,3f,af) (e6,8e,a7) (e3,3f,88) (e3,82,3f) (e3,3f, etc)</code>
+
This batch file covers only Counter Strike Series.

:: There's both an <code>81</code> and an <code>8f</code> being turned into a <code>3f</code> - there's definitely information gone missing. Coincidentally, <code>3f</code> corresponds to a question mark in ASCII. I suspect something's tried converting to Windows-1252 because in my comparison paragraph, all the 'forbidden' bytes (marked in green on the chart) have been squished...

Well, backups are the best solution. Failing that, the only possible solution I can think of is to use digram (and trigram, if available) frequency analysis to reconstruct the corrupted bytes. I have some old cryptanalysis code that can be adapted for that purpose with the addition of a UTF-8/UCS-2 converter. However, I certainly don't have digram data for Japanese, and I've never actually tried frequency analyses on such a large character set, so I don't know what theoretical reliability we'd get. If there are fewer Chinese-language articles (I think there are?) then they can be corrected by hand. In any case, this is a last resort. &mdash;Maven (talk) 06:30, 22 Nov 2005 (PST)

Important update regarding multibyte language data
+
Minor changes to  some wiki pages
Unfortunately, what n-neko has suggested appears to be what has occurred. Due to recent changes in language parameter options in mysqldump between MySQL 4.0 and 4.1, the backups we have been creating also do not have the correct character conversions, so the data has been irrecoverably lost. You can read more about this issue with MySQL and MediaWiki databases here.

We are correcting our backup procedures to prevent this from happening again in the future.
+
I have build .net library that implements server query protocol,Rcon protocol, master server query protocol.it can listen to remote logs and u can subscribe to different logged events.
 +
here is the link : http://querymaster.codeplex.com/

For now, please hold off on correcting or adding the multibyte character articles. Multibyte languages should work correctly now, but we are going to take the server offline and perform some tests to make sure the data is being backed up correctly. This process should be completed during the downtime later today. We'll post another update here when it is all clear to post multibyte data again.
+

-while testing on multipacket compressed source responses, the decompressed size of response was 0 and was a short value but "Server Queries"(https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Server_queries) wiki page states that it should be long and is equal to size of packet after decompression.I could find only 1 public server that compresses the response. So I would need a confirmation.and if my findings are right then that page should be updated.

:Hi, Jeff. Thanks for making the situation clear and preventing future corruptions.
+
-Cs 1.6 protocol 47 does not respond to query messages mentioned in the "Server Queries"(https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Server_queries) page.It responses only to half life protocol queries(noticed it while testing my library).the responses are same though.
 +
I think this should be added to that page.

:I decided to set up a mirror site for Japanese documents on my server using google cache. Fortunately I could secure most of the articles(before the data loss) in html, and edits went well so far(I hope). So here is less inconvenience for Japanese readers...
+
-There is no wiki page for Gold Source RCON protocol.I had to research/experiment to identify all the pieces of the protocol.I think even that should be added to wiki as it will save lot of trouble for those who are trying to implement it.

:The site calls VDC for its images, so I should have asked your permissions first...But please forgive me for setting it up for now as a temporary solution. As soon as I find an automated way converting these secured html files back into Wiki codes(and posting them back), then I'll stop the mirror if you don't want it continue. -n-neko 02:41, 26 Nov 2005 (PST)
+
-Source RCON protocol page(https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Source_RCON_Protocol) states that maximum packet size is 4096.I have received packets bit larger than that (around 4130)
 +
(CS:Source server, cvarlist command).I would say maximum possible size should be kept to 4200.

:: I've converted two articles over using copy-and-paste, just to see how much work would be involved in doing it manually - it's s rather dull task, but doesn't need any knowledge of Japanese (fortunately!). I think something which converts the HTML backup to Wiki-format with a simple look-up-table might prove simpler - I'll have a go at writing such a thing if you like. &mdash;<font color=&quot;#10c010&quot;>Cargo Cult</font> (info, talk) 07:34, 26 Nov 2005 (PST)

I made the twitch logo into a private character to try and put before and after my steam name "BeatStr33t" but only boxes like this one "" appear.  I think that putting the twitch logo could be a hip new thing to show people you are a streamer, but not have to put the whole url for ex. "twitch.tv/beatstr33t" as my name.  I also see that twitch is trying to move to the social media side more so I believe that this would go along with that plan.

Counter-Strike Mod?
Counter Strike: Global Offensive Dedicated Server dosen't start
I am trying to make a mod for counter-strike source but I keep hitting some errors. I can load the counter-strike source screen as if i were going to play counter-strike normally, (i copied the files and fooled around with them to get this to work) but I still get the following error and I don't know how to fix it.

&quot;client.dll init() in library client failed&quot; then I would get another box that said this:

Can you guys help me? I would greatly appreciate it.

As far as i have seen, you are only able to &quot;mod&quot; HL2, the stripped SDK, and the stripped DM versions into a game of your own. CS is not openly mod-able. You can make smaller, less capable server plugins, but they are only really useful for manipulating the server via what has been allowed for output/listening functions. In other words, the games (HL2, HL2DM, DOD, CS, ETC) that valve release are not going to be able to be modded, they have released the 3 coding options.
+
Hi! I'm using portal 2 authoring tools and I've been experiencing issues. Bad issues- The Info_particle_system I'm using has a control point (particlesystem: blob curve for more info) but unfortunately it ignores its control point and the system floats over to the map's origin. I am in need of help and anyone who knows how to fix this issue, I would appreciate it immensely if they could tell me how to fix this; thanks!

As for the error, did you build your own code or rip the dll's out of the gcf?&mdash;ImaTard 03:18, 2 Jan 2006 (PST)

2 Questions: GMod static props not working / Is a submodel a thing?
Hey Thanks for getting back to me so soon. Yeah, I just ripped the dll's out of the gcf file. It works fine until a couple seconds of the &quot;loading&quot; in the bottom right hand corner and then crashes. I appreciate your help.
+
So, first question: In my GMod, I have copied the content from all the source games I own (HL2, EP1, Ep2, L4D, L4d2, CS:S, CS:GO, Portal and Portal 2. I own a few others but haven't used them) and put them in my models/materials folder, for use in the Hammer Editor. I've been able to use the editor fine for a while until one time in a map my static props wouldn't appear when testing the map. I know for sure that it supports that kind of prop, It just wasn't appearing. is the content from the games listed above causing this, or is this some other error? The console simply says that there was an error loading the prop or something. (also, later on my map said it had something leaked in it and it wouldn't update to the latest version when i tested the map, I don't know what's going on there, not asking for an answer but if you want you can try to help me with it.)

Second question: has nothing to do with Hammer but with valve model files. When I was browsing through addon props in my GMod (in game), I noticed a model that is a workbench from CS:S's map cs_militia, with a box of cords and some other models that i've seen before. in the little storage thing under the table is some crates that were yellow and blue with the biohazard symbol on them. These boxes appear on the HL2 props workspace01 through workspace04, along with the box of cords. they appear in other models, are they a kind of Sub model? or did they simply take that part of the model and put it in the one they made?

There doesn't happen to be a work-around? I'm just curious.
+
that's all. Question 1 i really don't wanna do anything like downloading tools or editing code, something simple that doesn't involve a lot (removing the content i put in there is ok, if that is the only sollution. Question 2 is just something I noticed and am wondering if sub models are a thing, or not.

You are unable to mod CS. Ripping the CS DLL's out of the GCF will only allow you to play CS. You may as well just jump in via steam and not bother. I dont know why it would be giving you errors, but it may be tied to how cs is loaded via steam, to force the players not to make their dlls work in their game, although i dont know why or how that would be possible. As many posters/web designers/Mappers have realized. There isnt much in the way of modding that can be done without C++, ie changing the DLL's.

Either way, fix or no fix, you are really up a creek without a paddle. I would suggest making a server plugin if you want to truely effect CSS, but it wont be anythign significant enough to call a mod.&mdash;ImaTard 03:18, 2 Jan 2006 (PST)

I can see only menu button that have only text when editing a page. The others are just blank, make editing very frustrating.

By using "inspect elements", it's said that these buttons are linked to a file https://developer.valvesoftware.com/w/extensions/WikiEditor/modules/images/toolbar/button-sprite.svg?d6d13 , which is not avaliable right now (http code 403).

Ever since the January 5th update for the SDK, when I try to open an existing map project in Hammer it crashes. I get the standard Windows error that asks you send a report to Microsoft. I can open a new project, but no existing projects. I also tried decompiling a map and opening the .vmf, and it still crashes.

I have seen some posts on various mapping forums where others are experiencing this. The only thing people can offer is a polite recommendation to just be patient and wait for Valve to remedy the problem.

Is this a known issue, and if so, is Valve working on a resolution? When can we expect to get an update that resolves this?

I've made somewhat of a wiki-spam detector. This is based on something that almost all spammers seem to spam the wiki with, so I hope it works/helps. This is ridiculous. Come on! What's keeping them?! It's can't be that hard to do! People are getting impatient. I for one can't start doing anything because 2003 is no more and 2005 is not supported. What should I do? Illegally download vs 2003 or keep waiting until the sdk upgrade project is scrapped after 6 months because it doesn't bring any money to Valve?

Besides, how come a big and 'serious' company like Valve doesn't keep up with what they are releasing?

It's nice they released the SDK but not looking into it and not supporting it has brought this whole situation on. They should have been ready for vs 2003 being discontinued. Somebody in Valve is not doing their job properly if you ask me... And they're not doing it AGAIN.

win x64, after installing Hammer, CS acts odd (slow motion)
First of all I found no troubleshooting pages so far.

Second: I had no problems (except getting headshoots) with CS or CS:Source on x64 platform. Runs smooth and it is fun.

After I installed and set up Hammer and loaded the sdk_de_cbble.vmf I tried to test it by Run the map (F9). It takes a long time to compile, but it is ok. I shut down a machine and another day dawns. Now I experienced that when I play CS or CS:CZ the game just slows down sometimes even if I just run straight. Happens with CS:CZ Deleted Scenes, online game, no matter what I do...

My guess is that some debug setting is set and CS detects that but won't warn me about thats a debug mode or something. It is also strange, that numlock just stops the client which is another hint to think it is some kind of debug mode.

The SDK has a menuitem which entitled as 'Reset Game Configurtions' but it didn't fix this issue...

Any idea how can I get back my game?

Any idea will be greatly appreciated (beside I will be driven mad with the current situation).

I could delete all local content but due I have limited internet connection (and I have to pay for EVERY BIT I download or upload) reinstalling is not an option (and I'm just not sure it will help at all :(((

Wiki Policy suggestion
To cut down on the amount of useless unlinked articles lost in the main namespace, I recommend a general policy of no-support, i.e. not allowing people to ask questions pertinent to individual projects of theirs directly on the wiki. We still have the Chatbear forums, and forums are a much better medium for getting help with things.<br />

On the same note, I do suggest we post solutions to common problems, but make sure they're linked on a page. We already have a lot of dead-end pages that should be dealt with, as well as Unused images. Personally, I believe that Valve should look into having other sysops, considering they have non-employee moderators on the forums. This would give the community a better standing against trolls and other problems we face every so often, as obviously the current admins can't always be here to watch over it (they, unlike us, have jobs!) ;) --AndrewNeo 17:14, 8 Feb 2006 (PST)

64-bit windows: no SSDK?
Hello!

I have a strange problem, maybe you can help me. I can't find anything similar in your support FAQ,

and noone answered me on the email.

About a year ago I traveled to London, there was free broadband internet, and I downloaded full HL2, CS:S,

HL2:DM, Codename: Gordon, Source SDK and Source Dedicated Server. I saved all in backup file, bring

the file to my home and successfully backup(ed) steam. After that, steam downloaded about 600 mb (update)

(it's about 20$ for me... :/). But it doesen't matter. I have WinXP 64-bit edition. In HL2, i saw in the top of

screen sign: "64-bit mode enabled" (it's good :))... But problem is... SSDK won't work anyway! If I'm trying

to run installed separetely Hammer and then configure it, Windows catching an error and Hammer closing.

From steam when I'm pressing "Source SDK" I see sign "loading..." for about 5 secs, then mouse cursor with

"sand clocks", and then nothing... Is there special Hammer or SDK tools for 64-bit systems? You developing

them or SSDK 32-bit vers. should work on 64-bit system? Why SSDK from steam won't run? Can you help me?

Computer is:

- AMD Athlon 64 FX-55

- ATI (Sapphire) Radeon X850XT PCI-X

- nVidia nForce4 motherboard/chipset (model A8N-SLI Deluxe)

- Enought hard disk space and 2GB RAM.

I think that's all reasonable information. Please, answer me. Better on securityxiii@gmail.com.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+++ SOLUTION FOUND. Thanks goes to Tyler :) To run SDK on 64-bit systems, run

HL2 with console parameter -32bit. Then exit HL2. Now SDK should work!

--- BUT STILL WAITING for 64-bit SDK support from VALVE!

Hello, I see that this is a multilingual wiki. Have you considered using the Translate extension, which allows to easily make your MediaWiki multilingual? It makes you save enormous amounts of time which otherwise is wasted on templates wizardry, manual synchronisation of pages and so on, scarying off most translators; and offers many other aid to efficient translation. Now it's also available in handy tarball bundles. The page explains how to get help and more information, and there is extensive documentation; asking on #mediawiki-i18n @ freenode is probably your best chance for immediate assistance if needed. Steamcmd install - Batch file

This is my first contribution, it's not big, but I think that it could be helpful to someone :)

Into this file, you can populate (with your personal edit: notepad ++ or another)

1) Path where your steamcmd is installed (only for one time) 2) Path where you want to instal or update your games.

This batch file covers only Counter Strike Series.

Counter Strike: 1.6; Source; Condition Zero and GO.

I hope this tool helps you to install more easily your servers :)

Minor changes to some wiki pages

I have build .net library that implements server query protocol,Rcon protocol, master server query protocol.it can listen to remote logs and u can subscribe to different logged events. here is the link : http://querymaster.codeplex.com/

while building it i noticed few things ,

-while testing on multipacket compressed source responses, the decompressed size of response was 0 and was a short value but "Server Queries"(https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Server_queries) wiki page states that it should be long and is equal to size of packet after decompression.I could find only 1 public server that compresses the response. So I would need a confirmation.and if my findings are right then that page should be updated.

-Cs 1.6 protocol 47 does not respond to query messages mentioned in the "Server Queries"(https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Server_queries) page.It responses only to half life protocol queries(noticed it while testing my library).the responses are same though. I think this should be added to that page.

-There is no wiki page for Gold Source RCON protocol.I had to research/experiment to identify all the pieces of the protocol.I think even that should be added to wiki as it will save lot of trouble for those who are trying to implement it.

-Source RCON protocol page(https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Source_RCON_Protocol) states that maximum packet size is 4096.I have received packets bit larger than that (around 4130) (CS:Source server, cvarlist command).I would say maximum possible size should be kept to 4200.

-Addition to "HL Log Standard"(https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/HL_Log_Standard) wiki Page : server logs server shut down event. log message : Server shutdown

Twitch Logo  In Steam Name

I made the twitch logo into a private character to try and put before and after my steam name "BeatStr33t" but only boxes like this one "" appear. I think that putting the twitch logo could be a hip new thing to show people you are a streamer, but not have to put the whole url for ex. "twitch.tv/beatstr33t" as my name. I also see that twitch is trying to move to the social media side more so I believe that this would go along with that plan.

Because the Twitch logo is not a proper Windows/Mac emoji. --Andrew (talk) 19:03, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Info_Particle_System

2 Questions: GMod static props not working / Is a submodel a thing?

These boxes appear on the HL2 props workspace01 through workspace04, along with the box of cords. they appear in other models, are they a kind of Sub model? or did they simply take that part of the model and put it in the one they made?

that's all. Question 1 i really don't wanna do anything like downloading tools or editing code, something simple that doesn't involve a lot (removing the content i put in there is ok, if that is the only sollution. Question 2 is just something I noticed and am wondering if sub models are a thing, or not.

Maximumtaco1783 (talk)maximumtaco1783: I also forgot to mention I can never get a 3D skybox to work, and this is long before I installed that content into GMOD. I always followed the instructions exactly, and my skybox just wouldn't appear (well it did once, just some brushes were absent). help for that and my initial 2 questions?

Is the editor tool broken right now?

I can see only menu button that have only text when editing a page. The others are just blank, make editing very frustrating. By using "inspect elements", it's said that these buttons are linked to a file https://developer.valvesoftware.com/w/extensions/WikiEditor/modules/images/toolbar/button-sprite.svg?d6d13 , which is not avaliable right now (http code 403). Am I the only one that encountered this problem? UnluckyNinja (talk) 11:16, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
