I just ran into a database error during a submission and probably screwed something while rolling back the article's history. My fault. -- Sodabus 22:54, 14 Jul 2005 (PDT)

no worries, mate. keep adding to the wiki! ----JacobNicholson 23:40, 14 Jul 2005 (PDT)
I've seen those as well, but the changes always seem to make it through. I wouldn't worry about it seeing as how we can always roll back if needed!----- Matt Wood

Expression events ignored in-game?

Is there more to getting actors to act out expression events in-game than merely creating the appropriate event in a .vcd and importing it into a LCS entity?

For example, I created a scene where a npc_barney actor would act out an expression event using the "hh" expression from the "phonemes" class file, among other various events. Playing through the scene in FacePoser shows the desired effect. However, when setting scene_print to 1 and playing the scene in HL2, CBaseFlex::AddSceneEvent: event failed appears in the console within the timespan of the expression event, along with the actor ignoring the action, but the rest of the scene plays as expected. Am I missing something vital, or would I have to rely on flexanimation events for actions like these? -- Sodabus 22:17, 19 Jul 2005 (PDT)

Best thing to do would be upload the VDC and VMF. --TomEdwards 23:52, 19 Jul 2005 (PDT)
Here it is. -- Sodabus 00:36, 20 Jul 2005 (PDT)
i havent taken a look at these files yet, but will soon. however, i will say that all of the facial animation done in HL2 (at least the stuff authored by animators for the 'dramatic' scenes) was done using the flex anim event -- so practically speaking, yes, you want to use Flex events for any non-lipsync facial animation. the Expression event wasnt used in production to my knowlege, and so the bug you describe doesnt suprise me. i will find out more about the Expression event and update the page, log any bugs, etc. let me know if you are running into probs/pains using the Flex event to get what you're after in your scene. thanks --JacobNicholson 23:56, 24 Jul 2005 (PDT)

Gesture??

This promised link:

Detailed info about creating and using Gestures can be found Here (link forthcoming).

would really be helpfull to understand what a gesture is.

You can ask Jacob, since he added that part into the article. Perhaps he could expand on the content of this thread on the VERC forums - which (I think) is related to your comment. -- Sodabus 17:54, 16 Dec 2005 (PST)
