雷神之锤引擎引入了许多今天仍在起源中使用的概念，例如 BSP 的现代变体，PVS 和 PAS 的使用，预先计算的光照贴图，visleafs 和画笔实体。早期的金源多人游戏基于 QuakeWorld 多人游戏代码。
