id Tech 2 is an engine created by id Software for Quake, and later modified for Quake II. It was used as the foundation for GoldSrc and all subsequent Valve engines.
id Tech 2 consists of the following two "branches":
- The Quake Engine, developed for Quake and used by several other games
- The Quake II Engine, developed for Quake II and used by several other games
