Error Dropping Steam Community Group Member

  • Expected: Successful drop of Community Group Member.
  • Observed: Selected member is not dropped while another group member appears to be dropped instead. Originally selected member for drop is promoted to officer not dropped. Attempting to redrop member results in an error. After a few days the group appears to return to normal with "mistakenly dropped" member reappearing in place of your original selection for drop. However the problem persists in successive attempts.
  • Steps to reproduce: Drop a member from Steam Community Group.

Steam Group Chat Notifications

  • Expected: A notification every time something is said in the Group Chat.
  • Observed: No notification.
  • Steps to reproduce: Join a group chat, minimize the window and have someone send a message to you.

Friends list join game error

  • When in TF2, I opened my friends list (Shift+Tab) and right clicked a friend who was playing CS:S. I then clicked View Game Info, then join game. I then gave me an protocol error, saying the server was using an earlier protocol than my client.
  • It should tell me that their playing a different game than me and I am unable to join.

Client doesn't properly calculate required width on pages with tables

  • Expected: The horizontal scroll bar appears when part of the table is hidden.
  • Observed: For most/all pages with tables, or what appear to be tables, part of the last column can be hidden without the horizontal scroll bar being activated.
  • Steps to reproduce: Go to a page with a table (like the All Games (http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=all) page, or the Browse Games (http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=browse) page

ATimson 16:43, 2 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Can you provide a screenshot? I am unable to reproduce this problem. Alden 08:31, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Actually, I can't anymore; I'm unable to reproduce it today. I don't know if this is a side effect of other changes, or what, but I think it can be safely ignored. (Unless I see it again, in which case I'll make sure to get a screenshot. smiley.gif)

Demos don't launch if account can access full game

  • Expected: Either the demo doesn't appear in the store, much like it doesn't appear on the My Games tab, or the demo launches when choosing "Click to Play" from the demo's detail page.
  • Observed: Demos that are hidden on the My Games tab (because the player has the full game) do not have any response when clicking on "Click to Play". Demos where they do still appear on the My Games tab (Darwinia) successfully launch.
  • Steps to reproduce: On an account with access to Half-Life 2, browse to the Half-Life 2 Demo page in the store and install the demo. (It's only a 2 MB download if you have HL2 installed on that machine.) Once the installation is complete, click on the "Click to Play" button.
  • This is also broken with Shadowgrounds; presumably it is also for Rag Doll Kung Fu, but I don't have access to it.

--ATimson 20:00, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)

"Get Steam Now" page broken horribly in IE7

  • Expected: Page renders correctly.
  • Observed: The footer is directly below the header, with the content of the page being drawn underneath the footer.
  • Steps to reproduce: Open the Steam Store in IE7, click "Get Steam Now"

--AiusEpsi 19:13, 2 Aug 2006 (PDT)

IE 7 is still in beta, right? I'm hoping they fix a number of css standards compatability issues in IE when the public release is available. Alden 08:30, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Yeh, Beta 3 at the moment. I think they said that Beta 2 was layout complete though, so I wouldn't count on them doing any more CSS fixes. Layout Complete Announcement (http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/03/23/559409.aspx) --AiusEpsi 12:22, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)

High CPU usage while browsing the store

"I don't have Steam" loads in tiny window

  • Expected: Clicking the "I don't have Steam" button opens the Get Steam Now page in a new window, or the Store window.
  • Observed: Get Steam Now loads in the small popup window and is unusable.
  • Steps to reproduce: Try to purchase a package from your web browser (i.e. not through the client).
  • TomEdwards 12:01, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Can you tell me which browser you are using? I am seeing this work as expected in IE 6 and Firefox. Alden 13:01, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Firefox 1.5.0.5 and 1.5.0.6 (today's release). --TomEdwards 13:07, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Also could not reproduce, using IE6 and FF 1.5.0.5.
Just to clarify: this is an issue after clicking the second, red button on the area=redirect popup. The popup itself behaves normally. --TomEdwards 01:41, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Found the cause. I had the Firefox option to redirect links that open in new windows into tabs enabled. There is a way around this through JavaScript: the Ubisoft forums do exactly the sort of trick the Store needs here after the user replies to a thread. --TomEdwards 06:04, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Pages only sort once

  • Expected: When sorting a page like the All Games (http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=all) pages, when the values for the chosen sort are identical it should sort by the last chosen category.
  • Observed: When the field that is being sorted for has identical values, the entries are presented in a random order. (It is not sorted by name, developer, Metascore, price, or application ID.) This is easiest to see—for me—when viewing the New Releases page and sorting by price. (I own four of the six listed games.)
  • Steps to reproduce: Go to any listing in the store formatted like the All Games page—this would also include one of the category pages accessible via Browse Games. Sort by a category with collisions—developer, Metascore, or price.

ATimson 16:43, 2 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Package button backgrounds disappear in IE

  • Expected: Package rollover buttons remain visible all the time.
  • Observed: After a certain number of mouseovers/outs, the background disappears entirely. It only comes back after a period of time (~5 secs?).
  • Steps to reproduce: Load a game or movie page in IE (through the Steam client if you like) and move the pointer over and off a package button repeatedly.
  • TomEdwards 08:37, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
    • Could not reproduce this in IE6 or FF 1.5.0.6 Chris Bokitch 10:58, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Steam crashes

  • Expected: Steam continues working, and starts up again correctly
  • Observed: Steam crashes after playing RO free trial and going to the purchase page via the popup after playing the game
  • Steps to reproduce: Opt in to Store beta, then play RO for the first time. Then exit the game and go to the purchase page from the link in the popup window

Thumbnail videos cannot be paused/unpaused

  • Expected: Thumbnail videos pause and unpause with a click anywhere in the SWF.
  • Observed: Under IE, clicking will sometimes do nothing. Eventually the system 'unlocks'. The mouseover effect is there, but clicking does nothing. Happens both while the video is paused and playing.
  • Steps to reproduce: View thumbnail video in IE, try to pause it shortly after playback begins.
  • TomEdwards 01:55, 4 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Could not reproduce this under IE6 and FF 1.5.0.6. Note that flash movie will continue to load, but will not play, while paused. Chris Bokitch 11:00, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT)
I can't reproduce it now either. --TomEdwards 11:17, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Unpausing thumbnail video skips frames

  • Expected: Video contiues playback from frame on-screen.
  • Observed: Two or three frames are skipped, followed shortly by the sound skipping to keep up.
  • Steps to reproduce: Unpause any thumbnail video.
  • TomEdwards 01:55, 4 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Red Orchestra: Five Free Days news item mis-rendered in Firefox

  • Expected: Top half (http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/4982/ronewsrenderfo8.png)
  • Observed: Bottom half (http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/4982/ronewsrenderfo8.png)
  • Steps to reproduce: Load main page in Firefox
  • TomEdwards 00:53, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
This is not content-specific. The third menu item is affected by this issue, whatever it is. --TomEdwards 13:09, 5 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Looks fine to me. (http://www.thehamster.co.uk/images/steamstore.jpg) (And it has from the start.) I'm starting to wonder if there's something seriously corrupted in your Firefox installation.... --ATimson 18:04, 5 Aug 2006 (PDT)
The offending code is:
<a href="..."><img src="..."> The Ship Update Released</a><p><a href="..." class="rightLink_news">Updates to The Ship have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted.</a></p>
Note the additional anchor. However, it only appears in Firefox's generated source, which is the result of its quirks mode (http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Mozilla's_Quirks_Mode) interpretation of the invalid storefront page. Which suggests that it's an unclosed tag somewhere earlier in the page, or something? --TomEdwards 01:03, 6 Aug 2006 (PDT)
I had this problem only from time to time (a result of the image rotation?). Right now, it seems to be fixed. --Koraktor 05:35, 6 Aug 2006 (PDT)
That sounds like a logical theory to me! --TomEdwards 05:44, 6 Aug 2006 (PDT)
I've uploaded Fx's generated source both when the bug is present (http://www.steamreview.org/external/vdc/storefront_generatedsource_withnewsbug.htm) and when it is not (http://www.steamreview.org/external/vdc/storefront_generatedsource_nonewsbug.htm) (passers-by: the orphaned pages won't make much sense when viewed in a browser). --TomEdwards 13:58, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT)
  • I can't reproduce this. It may have been fixed. Chris Bokitch 22:33, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Nope, still happening here. --TomEdwards 01:45, 9 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Yes, still happening. I just used WinMerge to show the difference between the correct and the buggy version:

Correct version:

<a href="http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=news&id=713&" class="rightLink_news">
<img src="Welcome%20to%20Steam-Dateien/ico_arrow_yellow.gif" border="0" height="7" width="7">
The Ship Update Released<p>
Updates to The Ship have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted.</p></a>

Corrupted version:

<a href="http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=news&id=713&" class="rightLink_news">
<img src="Welcome%20to%20Steam-Dateien/ico_arrow_yellow.gif" border="0" height="7" width="7">

--Koraktor 03:56, 9 Aug 2006 (PDT)

For what it's worth, I can reproduce this as well. It took just 2 refreshes of the page in FireFox to get the SDK news update bugged. -Zips 00:46, 10 Aug 2006 (PDT)
This hasn't been happening to me as often recently. --TomEdwards 01:30, 22 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Default Steam window too narrow (client bug)

  • Expected: Default 'Full View' frame is wide enough to show the entire store without a horizontal scrollbar.
  • Observed: It isn't. Same width as with the V2 store.
  • TomEdwards 04:48, 9 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Obviously this shouldn't change until the beta is over, but it's an issue regardless. --TomEdwards 04:48, 9 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Packages I own are displayed

  • Expected: Games that are owned are no longer displayed in the front page banner space. Packages that consist of games I own shouldn't either.
  • Observed: Source Multiplayer Pack appears, even though I already have everything in it.
  • TomEdwards 04:48, 9 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Could also be because there isn't another big capsule for a game I don't own to take its place? --TomEdwards 04:48, 9 Aug 2006 (PDT)
What should happen if you own all games/packages? --King2500 09:38, 9 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Fixed? --King2500 16:22, 10 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Clicking an install/purchase/etc button adds to the page history buffer

  • Expected: Click an install/purchse/blah button, close the popup, then be able to use the back button immediately.
  • Observed: Clicking the button adds a page to the Back history and requires two Back clicks to return to the previous page.
  • Possibly fixable with a javascript: URL instead of filler #? Perhaps by changing the #purchase href to just #? --TomEdwards 15:39, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT)
  • Fixed by Chris Bokitch 22:43, 8 Aug 2006 (PDT). ( changed #text to just # )
That didn't work. --TomEdwards 04:50, 9 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Useless page titles

  • Expected: Page titles are descriptive and show users both what page they are viewing and where it exists in the site's page hierarchy.
  • Observed: Page title is always "Welcome to Steam".
  • TomEdwards 13:39, 23 Aug 2006 (PDT)

You save $0.00!

  • Expected: 'You save' text not displayed for packages that don't save you anything (e.g. Sin Ep1 (http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=package&SubId=70)).
  • Observed: "You save $0.00!"

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Trailer has wrong thumbnail

  • Expected: Correct thumbnail video in the sidebar.
  • Observed: Thumbnail is of Teaser 2.
  • TomEdwards 12:09, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
  • Fixed by Alden 14:45, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
  • This is not fixed; I still see Teaser 2 as the thumbnail video. ATimson 16:27, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Please clear your cache and try again. Alden 17:02, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
I still see Teaser 2 as the thumbnail video for the Ep1 teaser. I even tried opening the SWF directly (http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/vid_ctn.swf?fileID=gfx/apps/905/) in Firefox—which I'd never gone to that page with—to verify. ATimson 19:41, 3 Aug 2006 (PDT)
Still an issue here as well. In IE the correct grayscale image is shown, but when the video starts it's still Teaser 2. In Firefox the image is wrong too. Cache cleared, etc. --TomEdwards 01:48, 4 Aug 2006 (PDT)

Menu bar illegible

  • Expected: Readable menu bar on the top.
  • Observed: Font is too cramped and is almost unreadable at 1024X768 on my laptop. Its not the same font as the forums.

Price brackets include non-purchaseable titles

  • Expected: Only titles which have their own individual prices are seen in the Browse By Price pages.
  • Observed: Several games which can only be purchased in packages are listed on the Browse By Price pages, namely Sin 1 and Lost Coast.
  • Steps to reproduce: Browse to the "$10-$20" price page.

Valve titles show wrong publisher

  • Expected: Sierra shown as publisher for Half-Life, Half-Life 2
  • Observed: Half-Life, its expansions/mods, and most Source engine games by Valve omit the publisher; Half-Life 2 (and the demo) report that it was published by EA but uses the original release date. Even if the GOTY rerelease were being used, EA is only the distributor; Valve now self-publishes.
  • Steps to reproduce: Go to the page for any Valve game in the store.

No Package Description If Product Already Brought

  • After you purchase a product you should still be able to see the content included in that package. I.E. Episode 1 comes with EP1, HL Deathmatch Source, Lost Coast, and HL2DM.
  • After the product is purchased within the steam store it simply includes the button which says "Click to play Half-Life Episode 1 (or whatever." It's not so much a bug as it is an inconvience. One of my friends asked me what was included in Episode One and on the old steam store I could check. This time I cannot unless that game isn't already purchased.
  • Steps to reproduce: Buy a game and look at it within the steam store beta v3.
  • DeadMan88 07:07, 5 Aug 2006 (PDT)
In the old Steam store, it also hid the package contents for games you owned. On the other hand, in both old store and new you can simply go to the store in a web browser to see what is/isn't included. ATimson 17:05, 5 Aug 2006 (PDT)

  • DODS, DOD, CS, CZ, TFC, all multiplayer mods and probably a bunch of other games I've not clicked on are missing the ' Valve Anti-Cheat Enabled' icon and text from their sidebars.
