Awaiting Verification
This section contains bugs that the developer thinks have been fixed in the update, but need verification from the submitters. If the bug isn't fixed, please elaborate on the repro steps, because it's most likely that the developer has only found one case, or have fixed a separate but similar bug. - Johnc
Note that these bugs are currently only fixed in friends outside the game.
Please move fixed issues to the section below and add "After update: Verified Fixed by ~~~".

Invisible text after URL
- Expected: Entering a URL will not affect following text.
- Observed: All text following a URL starting a message, including the URL itself, is invisible. Does not seem to depend on URL address.
- Image (http://www.steamreview.org/external/vdc/friends3beta/invisible_chat.png)
- TomEdwards
- N1K23 has this to add:
- The contact you sent the URL to will be able to read the text.
- Afraid not... --TomEdwards 10:21, 3 Feb 2006 (PST)
- I tested this with 2 users and they could both read the text, however it seemed invisible to me. --N1K23 22:12, 3 Feb 2006 (GMT)
- Tested this, and reproduced reliably. Happens if you write a URL at the beginning of a line, any text on the screen below is subsequently invisible until the area where the URL should have been is off the screen. See this pair of screenshots. EAi
- I can confirm this bug.Mikeym88

Crash
- Observed: Crash occurs on map command issued at times in Half-Life on singleplayer

Friends is being funky
- Observed: Friends acts oddly when chatting in multiple chat windows on March 2 update.
- ts2do
[edit]
Revert command re-broken
- The 'revert' command, originally fixed in the initial beta has been re-broken.
- 'revert' sets a cvar back to its original value, before this beta it was broken as in, it wouldn't update a cvar's value to the server when changed with revert, this was fixed in the initial beta, however has been re-broken in the current beta.
[edit]
Annoying switch to window of recent IM
- Expected: When you are chatting with multiple users or have multiple windows open and receive a message and it flashes in the taskbar.
- Observed: When you are chatting with multiple users or have multiple windows open and receive a message, Friends automatically switches you to the chat window of the user that sent a message(Friends windows only). Extremely annoying when typing something. Additional: The new message window and new friend confirmation will also steal focus away from completely separate Steam windows.
- Steps to reproduce: Chat with someone and type something in another window, and when a message comes from that someone, it will switch.
- Ligan and nba1341
- Additional by Zips
- After update: Partially fixed
- The windows don't seem to steal focus anymore, but the taskbar does not blink except for when the first message is received via a new chat window. - Zips
[edit]
New messages steal window focus
- Expected behavior: New messages would not steal focus
- Observed behavior: If you get an incoming message in a background chat window, it steals focus from the foreground chat window. If you are in the middle of typing text it can be a bit disconcerting.
- Steps to reproduce the problem: Start two separate chat sessions and get messages from the background chat session while in the foreground chat session.
- Holtt

Text selection trails the cursor
- Expected: When clicking and dragging across spoken text in the chat window, all text from the point of the click to the location of the cursor should be highlighted.
- Observed: The region of selected text lags several characters behind the cursor.
- Steps to reproduce: Click and drag over some text in the chat window (not the text input box). Observe the trailing selection.
- Still happens in games (you also loose some of the text you copy, usually by 1 letter/number)
- Lunchtimemama
[edit]
Flashing of window icon
- Expected: Most IM programs flash the window title of the chat window when you receive a message if the window isn't focused
- They also don't depend on just stealing the focus, a really poor design idea --Alph Tech STUART
- Observed: You hear the sound then have to search through the windows to find which produced it
- Steps to reproduce: Alt+tab away from a chat window and get sent a message
- After update: Not fixed. Flashes window title only when new message is received in NEW window (unopened). Should flash message when received in existing window.
- See my bug in Section 3 on "Pseudofocus". --Alph Tech STUART 21:37, 2 Feb 2006 (PST)

Unicode characters do not act correctly at times
- Expected: Unicode should stay consistent in their size & the calculations should actually work!
- Observed: Unicode adds space and act weirdly when selected. This is also a visible bug in the Source engine. This is a vgui2 bug most likely.
- Steps to reproduce: Say some Unicode characters or have a Unicode nickname & select part of the text in the chat history.
- Screenshot
- ts2do

Right click menu does not always resize
- Expected: Menu height = Size of existing items
- Observed: At certain times, it doesn't resize.
- Steps to reproduce: Right click a friend in-game & click view game info. Give focus to the friends dialog by right clicking someone offline.
- Screenshot

HL2DM changing of model has been made impossible
- Expected: When going into options, and choosing a different player model (or directly changing the cl_playermodel cvar), you should spawn as the new model upon respawning. This should also change your team in TDM games (or clan wars).
- Observed: The player model (and thus the team) doesn't change upon respawning.
- Steps to reproduce: Go into options, select a player model of the opposing team. Commit suicide and respawn.
Mystman666 13:32, 14 Mar 2006 (PST)
- To elaborate, changes to cvars flagged with 'FCVAR_USERINFO' are not consistently triggering ClientSettingsChanged, nor are the changes being shown in engine->GetClientConVarValue(). This has also been happening in other mods, apparently. - Shyotl 21:31, 14 Mar 2006 (PST)
- This has been fixed as of 3/20/06 --Shyotl 21:31, 21 Mar 2006 (PST)

- Expected: Windows version: XP 64 Bit
- Observed: Windows version: 2003 Service Pack 1 (Build 3790)
- FishBrainX

Server browser 'Is not password protected' checkbox appears underneath listview box
- Expected: Should be with other checkboxes
- Observed: The 'is not password protected' checkbox is underneath the listview box and cannot be selected.
- Steps to reproduce: Open a HL1 mod (maybe HL2) and use the server browser. Only tested in 'Natural Selection' for HL1.

[edit]
Server browser ignores current mod selected in game drop down when used in-game (could be unconnected)
- Expected: The 'search string' should show modname; is not full; is not empty etc
- Observed: The 'search string' shows ; is not full; is not empty This means that it is impossible to find servers using the in-game server browser as all servers have a mod.
- Steps to reproduce: Unknown, happens even after restarting the game multiple times. Only tested in 'Natural Selection' for HL1.

Chat messages are not shared between in-game and windows
- Expected: When you chat in-game you'd expect the chat to be displayed in the windows chat box as well, and vice-versa
- Observed: When you exit the game, the chat text is lost and the existing chat window in windows (if it exists) is as it was before you went in-game
- Steps to reproduce: Chat with someone in windows, go in-game and chat with them there, quit the game
- Note by EAi: I have seen this work sometimes, not every time though. I think that open chat windows while in-game should be opened on the windows desktop when you exit the game, otherwise whole conversations can be easily lost.
- skdr
- Confirm. This happens to everyone I've spoken to using the chat. -Inimitable Feb 4
- Fixed EAi

Dumps
- Observed: Dumps are occurring many times (even with no apparent crash)
- Steps to reproduce: Open up the half-life folder and Start hl windowed...watch for mdmp files
- ts2do
- I can confirm this, I've got about 20 of them in my SteamApps/half-life folder and I deleted all that were there before yesterday. I have had steam closing on me on its own, for no apparent reason (and without any notification) which could be connected. This happens to me frequently. EAi
- Fixed in March 3rd Update EAi

Status change / window crash - in-game only
- Steps to reproduce:
- When in-game and friends status is not offline, open a message window to one of your contacts.
- Leaving message window open, change status to offline.
- Change status to online... client will crash in friendsUI.dll.
- Mveaudry
- Cannot reproduce EAi
- Can't reproduce after today's update. For posterity, Minidump here (http://www.tastyflakes.com/papers/friendsUI.crash.minidump.zip). Mveaudry

Half-Life 1 mods server list not working (Likely to be connected to report below)
- Expected: when finding servers (in Half-Life 1), list should fill or update (favorites and internet).
- Observed: list stays in the exact same condition it is when starting up any Half-Life 1 mod, friends are listed but not refreshed, no Internet games.
- Steps to reproduce: Start CS and look in Find Servers
- I confirm this. Also occurs with TFC. - Etalon
- I confirm this as well. Serverlist works in Windows but not in CS. - snafu.c
- I confirm this also. Add NS to the list of games it will not work in. - Scoot
- Me too. Its an annoying bug I hope gets fixed - n00bmaster
- I confirm this also. See issue below (it was here first!), has screenshot attached. - EAi
- I confirm this. Server browser works fine from desktop, but in game all servers show as not responding.--KillerKoala
- Appears to be fixed with latest beta refresh. - n00bmaster
- Not for me, list still doesn't work. Additionally the "is not password protected" checkbox is in the wrong place. - Etalon
- Confirmed that the server browser is still not working in CZ. The password protected checkbox is in the list of servers. --KillerKoala 17:58, 10 Feb 2006 (PST)
- Server listing still not working for me. --Scoot
- I confirm this, and in Day of Defeat also Theadept 10:26, 14 Feb 2006 (PST)

Day Of Defeat: Source Main Menu Music
- Expected: Music begins playing once main menu of DOD:S has loaded.
- Observed: Silence.
- Step to reproduce: Load up DOD:S once you've added beta command line to a Steam shortcut and platforms have updated. To verify it, remove friends command line and menu music works fine after that.
- Lts_Bnce
- I get the same thing as well—NightWolf
- I get this bug too. It applies to all other Source games/mods with menu music. Deceiver
- This is NOT fixed. Don't put it in the confirmed fixed section. Deceiver
- I downloaded DoD:S for the free weekend (Feb 10-12) and when i started it up, there was no music, not that I know what its is or what it sounds like. Mikeym88
- After March 10th Update: Verified as fixed by Deceiver
[edit]
DOD:S Music plays on joining game
- Expected: Valve in the face guy video starts on game launch from the Steam list and music in Day of Defeat: Source coincides with the starting menu.
- Observed: Video and music play whenever DOD:S starts, including when joining game from Friends and from the Steam server browser.
- Steps to reproduce: Join server from Friends/Server Browser.
Alph Tech STUART 19:59, 13 Mar 2006 (PST)
- Fixed with "Desktop Shortcut" update

French client: Everyone is UNKNOWN
- Expected: Name of chatter should be displayed correctly
- Observed: Every name, even the local name is displayed as UNKNOWN. Also Account name within the GAME Menu is Unknown
- Steps to reproduce: Set your client to French and chat with someone
- After update:: Verified Fixed by gamma
[edit]
Case sensitivity of username and emails while adding
- When adding friends, the steam account name OR email address is picky about case. It only finds a user with a lowercase string entered. Example: Adding planus works. Adding Planus results in name not found.
- Etalon
- After update: Verified Fixed by Etalon

Launch Options Do Not Save
- Expected: Launch options for CS 1.6 (unsure if others act the same) should save as they do without running this beta.
- Observed: My Games -> Right Click CS 1.6 -> Properties -> Set launch options -> field is entered as only '1' and the rest of the line is cleared out.
- Steps to reproduce: updated launch options, launched CS, works correctly. Exit CS, and the launch options are back to '1'
- warped

No \n after status change message
- Expected: The message "<username> is now playing <game>" should end in a line return so that the next message appears on the next line.
- Observed: It does not.
- Steps to reproduce: Chat with another user. Have the other user start a Friends-enabled game. Await the "<username> is now playing <game>" message. Type a message. Note that "<yourusername> say:" appears on the same line.

Right clicking
- If you right click on an item in the friends (or my games) list, it requires two right clicks off it to show another menu, when the standard in windows is that a right click off a popup menu will cause a second popup menu instantly (and the first to go). Not exactly major, but its nice to follow the way people expect things to work.

Highlight and Paste (via Mouse) Undesirable Behavior
- Expected: When adding a friend or typing in the chat window, highlighting a typed but unsent word, right clicking, and selecting "Paste" should clear the highlighted text and replace with the text on your clipboard.
- Observed: The pasted material is pasted at the beginning or the end of the highlighted text. The pasted word will appear at the beginning if the text was highlighted from right to left with the mouse, and the pasted word will appear at the end of the highlighted text if the text was selected from left to right. The highlighted text remains highlighted after the paste is carried out. Pasting via the keyboard (CTRL + V) carries out the expected behavior.
- Steps to reproduce: Type some text in the Add Friend menu or in a chat box to another user -> highlight the text -> right click and select "Paste"
- After update: Verified Fixed by Zips

Long usernames crash Steam
- Expected: A neat little Steam error message telling me to shorten my nickname
- Expected (alternate): truncate the nickname to the correct length
- Observed: Error message "Steam.exe (main exception): Win32 StructuredException at 10210003: Attempt to write to virtual address 1 without appropriate access rights."
- Steps to reproduce: Options >> Edit Profile, Put in a rather long nickname
- Not sure how many chars crashes it.

The 'Friend wants to see when you're online' box
- Expected: If someone adds you to their list while you are in-game, and you exit the game without responding to it, you would expect to be given the relevant options in the windows version of the window
- Observed: If you exit the game with a window visible, it will not appear in Windows until you restart Steam (which could be a long time for some people)
- Steps to reproduce: Enter a game and wait for a user to add you, exit the game without selecting an option in the window.
- After update: Verified Fixed by EAi

Max Message length is 255 characters
- Expected: All messages should be visible.
- Observed: If you send a message >= 256 characters, the receiving party won't see it.
- Steps to reproduce: Send a message >= 256 characters. The other party won't see the message.
- Screenshot
- Lunchtimemama
- After update: Verified Fixed by Evil Incarnate
- Both users see the same amount of characters, which is now 240. The sender cannot enter a message longer than 240 characters. A "beep" is played when attempting to enter the 241st character, both by pasting and by typing. - Evil Incarnate
- The character limit should be completely removed, or set to at least 500. - Evil Incarnate

Right-click My status menu
- Expected: Changing status enables the selected status and disables the old one. (Just like Options > My status)
- Observed: The selected status is activated, but the last status is not deactivated.
- Steps to reproduce: Change your status (either with Options > My status or with right-click > My status). Then right-click on your friends list and open My status.
- Koraktor
- After update: Verified Fixed by Koraktor

Links in the ChatHistory do not work
- Expected: Links shown in the ChatHistory should bring up the target website in the default browser unless in-game and fullscreen.
- Observed: Links only get underlined.
- Steps to reproduce: Send a link to someone
- After the update: Not working. When link is pasted to or typed into the chat window, every single chatline after the link disappears until the link line is scrolled away from the screen focus. Also, you can't click the links. Scrolling backwards to bring up the link text causes the chat log to blank out. - skdr

Having the beta sometimes makes the games crash on startup with a memory error
- Expected: The games will work normally
- Observed: Sometimes (most of the times actually) when having the steam friends beta active, the game when loading the main menu will crash with one of the memory errors. This has happened to 2 of my friends. I am not sure if this is related but the console also does not work and the option to enable it will not appear in advanced keyboard settings. Joining game through xfire works fine and console works.
- Steps to reproduce: Try and play one of the games (I use CS:S)
- Mrbutter
- I have had this happen to me once while trying to play CS:S as well. - Scoot
- Have had this happen as well with CS:S. Happened on two different systems (desktop and laptop). Puls
- Can also confirm. Possibly related - Games have been crashing to desktop even without an error message of any sorts popping up. MDMP files are created and can provide if needed (I have around 10 just from tonight alone between CS: Source and Dod: Source). - Zips
- I already created a support incident with some crash dumps attached. So they're aware of the problem. Koraktor
- After update: Not fixed. Just tried to join a DoD: Source server tonight. The game crashed almost immediately after the intro movie with a memory error. Restarted Steam and tried to play again to much success. -Zips
- I too have the same problem, trying to play hl/hl-mods/hl2/hl2mods. -Skies
- I did have the same problem, but since one of the last updates it didn't happen anymore. -Koraktor
