Hunt Down the Freeman (HDTF) is an infamous 2018 Half-Life fangame running on Source 2013. It was critically panned due to its numerous bugs, poor design, and the game's developers not being paid. The game features a parkour mechanic, which the player can use to scale pipes, crates, and other large objects. The developers were also accused of using assets from other games (such as Garry's Mod's Steam Workshop) without permission from the original creator.
Hunt Down the Freeman features 33 achievements, with some of them added as jokes or meme references to anything such as the negative review of the game, for enabling cheats, and much more.
Criticism aside, when it comes to the engine, the game utilizes WebM video for cutscenes (since 2023 beta update), PBR textures, Parallax Corrected Cubemaps, FMOD for audio, and much more.
Recently, Hunt Down the Freeman has begun the process of being completely remade by a team of devs. Some Steam announcements have been released detailing the devs' process in the revamp process, including new models for guns, remade maps, revamped shaders, and more. It may eventually be worth the $10 it's being sold for...
